The wonderful Bloo Lagoon Village eco-resort features a large and inviting pool surrounded by greenery and featuring a waterslide as well as lots of lounge chairs.
Bloo Lagoon Village – Genuine eco-friendly resort offering some of the most exceptional views in Bali.
The one, two, and three-bedroom villas are tiered along cliffs, each providing jaw-dropping views of the rugged coastline of eastern Bali. All villas are comfortable, if a little rustic, with kitchens, open-air bathrooms, and high thatched roofs. With no proper walls, the windows, balconies, and empty spaces maximize the views and breeze, and they are separated and secluded behind walls and/or private gardens. The magnificent views are shared equally with the yoga deck, art gallery, spa, and restaurant, while plenty of activities are also on offer. Within a short (but steep) climb of the charming village of Padangbai, and a short hike to the Crusoe-esque Blue Lagoon beach.

Bloo Lagoon Village – The Location
- Area: On a stunning clifftop in the tranquil northern part of the village. About 500m via a very steep road from the limited facilities in central Padangbai.
- Address: Jalan Silayukti road, which extends up a steep hill from the end of the beachside street in Padangbai, a quiet village along the east coast of Bali.
- How to Get There: Few metered taxis and chartered cars will take anyone this far from the airport, so best to arrange a pickup through the hotel. Many people come on the way to/from the Gili Islands, which is connected by all sorts of speedboat companies. Buy tickets from agencies at either end or compare schedules and buy tickets online. (See under Local Transport below for information about shuttle buses.)
- Handy to: 1,000-year-old Pura Silayukti temple. Snorkeling just offshore. Pier for speedboats to the Gili Islands. Terminal for ferries to Lombok Island.
Bloo Lagoon Village – The Basics
- Guests: Caters for all, but most guests seem to be couples and smaller groups of all ages.
- Beach: Alongside a divine cove called Blue Lagoon Beach, with extra-white sand. Ideal for snorkeling and swimming, but be wary of waves and undertows. The beach is about 300m from the hotel entrance, via steep roads and steps.
- Views: Almost all bungalows face the ocean for spectacular views along the northeast coast, but don’t overlook the beach.
- Kitchen: Most villas contain kitchens.
- Private Pools/Jacuzzis: Not expected or provided at this sort of eco-conscious boutique hotel (where some rooms don’t even have air-conditioning).
- Extras: Yoga classes each morning.
- Parking: 1 or 2 free and secure parking spots available at the lobby, but think long and hard before driving anywhere in Bali.

- Spa: The award-winning Spiral Spa Bloo is committed to the well-being and health of all guests and offers an impressive range of holistic treatments.
- Fitness Center: None, perhaps a little surprisingly.
- For Families: Lessons for children in kite-making and Balinese cooking.
- Activities: Classes in yoga (free) and Indonesian cooking.
- Other Facilities: All sorts of activities, including scuba-diving, can be arranged at reception. Blootique sells locally-made jewelry and handicrafts as well as snorkeling gear and massage oils. Computer station. Art gallery.
Bloo Lagoon Village – Food and Drink
- Restaurant & Bar: The Helix 64 Restaurant and Bar is beautifully situated at a higher level and offers unparalleled views of Padangbai and the east coast. The menu is extensive and pricey (as expected), with a focus on soups and salads using organic ingredients grown on-site. Plenty of wines and desserts further enhance the dining experience.
- Breakfast: Healthy breakfast is included in all rates.

- Smoking Rooms: Not permitted anywhere on the hotel grounds.
- Best Room: All villas are exquisite, each uniquely designed and decorated. Ask for one with air-conditioning, if required, because not all feature this (and none have TVs).
- For Families: The Small Villas have space for at least 1 child, and often 2. Family Villas feature 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a kitchen/living/dining area. The Large Villas can accommodate 6 or 7 people.
Bloo Lagoon Village – Local Transport
- Walking: Padangbai is just a village, so everything is within walking distance. But the hotel is up a steep road, about 500m from the limited facilities on offer.
- Public Transport: Padangbai is about 2 km from a junction on the main road along the east coast. Decrepit minibuses stop at this junction on their way to Denpasar or Amlapura (via Candidasa). Motorbike taxis take passengers between the junction and Padangbai, or anywhere else for a negotiable fare.
- Shuttle Bus: The island-wide operator, Perama, offers services to Ubud, Kuta, Candidasa, Amed, and Lovina. The Perama office is now inconveniently located about 500m up the main road from the ferry terminal. A few locally-operated companies also offer similar services.
- Cars, Motorbikes, & Taxis: No metered taxis operate in this part of Bali. For day trips or airport transfers, charter a car with a driver from someone on the streets, or better, through the hotel. There’s nowhere to reliably rent a car (which is not recommended anyway), but motorbikes are easy to arrange and an exhilarating way to explore the east coast.

- Facing the impeccable Blue Lagoon Beach, about 300m away, 2 similar warungs (food stalls) offer simple meals and unbeatable views: Warung Blue Lagoon and Warung Shanti.
- Warung Manggane – Along the steep road to the resort, it provides simple meals and views to rival anywhere in Padangbai.
- Topi Inn – Justifiably popular hangout with a bright décor, scrumptious food, and live music some nights. About 300m away, where the beachside street heads upwards to the resort.
- Kerti Restaurant – Best restaurant along the beachside street, if only for the elevated position offering superior views. Not far past the Topi Inn.
Nearby Shops & Markets
- Minimarts sell basic supplies along the beachside street, but there is nothing much to buy anywhere in Padangbai. Spreading along a road up from the ferry terminal most mornings, the village market is worth a look.

Padangbai is a delightful base from which to explore the east coast of Bali, including:
- Goa Lawah (9 km) – Impressive temple with an eerie cave filled with bats. Accessible by public transport from the junction.
- Candidasa (13 km) – Rival resort region with better facilities. Also accessible by public transport from the junction.
- Klungkung (17 km) – Regional center with an impressive water palace and bustling market just across the road.
- Snorkeling – Excellent at Blue Lagoon Beach, but be wary of waves and undertows. Snorkeling gear can be rented there.
- Swimming – The main beach is scenic, but better swimming and sunbathing at Blue Lagoon Beach and the desolate Bias Tugel Beach. The latter is about 1 km from the post office (just up from the ferry terminal) via a steep road.
Bloo Lagoon Village – The Hotel
The Bloo Lagoon Village resort is above the northern end of Padangbai, a delightful village along the east coast of Bali.
The access road from the end of the beachside street is about 300m long and quite steep.
Views of Padangbai from along the road to the resort (and to the nearby temple on the other headland) are lovely.
The resort is (almost) named after the exquisite Blue Lagoon Beach, which seems very close but is 300m away via steep roads and steps.
The pool at the resort is inviting – more than large enough for the limited number of guests – and features a small waterslide.
The Spiral Spa Bloo offers an impressive range of treatments.
The Helix 64 Restaurant and Bar provides some of the finest views anywhere in the region.
The menu at the restaurant is extensive and the bar well stocked.
The lobby area on an upper floor provides travel information, computer access, and a bulletin board.
Villas are dotted around gardens with ponds of fish and lilies.
Almost all villas provide sublime views of the ocean and northeast coast.
Superb views are possible in all directions from just about anywhere within the resort.
Furnishings are understated but certainly comfortable enough.
All villas are spacious but not all have air-conditioning, and none have a TV.
Some villas feature outdoor bathrooms – also with exceptional views.
Villas feature entire walls of full-length windows for maximum views and light, as well as a breeze because some villas have no air-conditioning.
The best place to eat in Padangbai is the Topi Inn, about 300m down from the resort.
Warung Blue Lagoon offers basic furniture, simple meals, and awe-inspiring views.
The only other warung (food stall) at Blue Lagoon Beach, about 300m from the resort, Warung Shanti boasts an equally unbeatable position.
